Hi I’m Irfan. I am your current education officer. During my time as a student, I was an academic representative, a student ambassador and volunteered as a peer listener for the SU advice centre. I also worked as an events assistant and retail assistant for the SU. All these roles have allowed me to interact and understand the needs of a diverse range of students. I want to continue my work as the education officer and amplify student voice, making your academic journey smooth.
Before becoming the education officer, I worked on various student facing roles such as student ambassador, academic representative, events assistant and retail assistant and volunteered as a peer-listener. These roles helped me understand student needs and after becoming the education officer I was able to work on certain areas such as awareness and embracing A.I., careers and employment, Increasing the number of tuition fee payment instalments, more PGR friendly events, lobby with NUS for renter’s rights. This role has allowed me to network and take student voice to various platforms and bring action.
I aim to advocate for flexible timetables that cater to the diverse needs of our student population, including commuters, part-time workers, and parents. I aim to push for a restructure of academic representation to ensure student feedback is heard and acted upon. I will advocate the ethical use of AI, promoting its benefits while overcoming resistance from lecturers. Finally, I will work to improve support for Postgraduate Researchers, providing dedicated spaces and events to help them thrive in their dual roles as students and teachers.
Hi, I’m Philips Oluwapelumi, an MSc Oil and Gas Engineering student. I’ve been involved in almost every society—there’s always something exciting happening, so I love getting involved! I’m a strong advocate for creative, out-of-the-box thinking and always strive to be as prepared as possible—because nothing feels worse than being caught off guard. Whether it’s academics, events, or problem-solving, I enjoy finding innovative approaches to challenges. If you ever need a fresh perspective about any topic, feel free to reach out.
In just four months at Huddersfield, I’ve taken on multiple roles—Academic Rep for my course, a member of the school Teaching and Learning Committee, an active member of the International Office (some of you may have seen some videos), a designer for the university’s magazine, and an IQ Influencer. I’m extremely driven, goal-oriented, and committed to making a real impact. My experience in leadership, creativity, and student engagement allows me to effectively represent and support students, with different uniqueness.
As Education Officer, my goal is to ensure students leave university as well-rounded individuals, not just with good grades but with skills that make them stand out to employers. Education shouldn’t be limited to academics. I want to promote opportunities for personal and professional development, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world experiences. I will advocate for more career-focused workshops, networking events, and skill-building programs tailored to each peculiar demographic of students to enhance employability. Let’s build the total student together.
Hi, I’m Shufan Javaid, an international student from Pakistan, currently in my second year of BSc (Hons) Information Technology. Passionate about student experience, I’ve worked at the grassroots level in education as an Academic Rep for two years and a member of the Student Advisory Council, directly engaging with students to understand their concerns. I also serve as a Student Ambassador for both the University and the International Office and work at the SU as a Retail Assistant. Actively involved in multiple global societies, I strive to make education more accessible and student-driven.
With two years as an Academic Rep and a member of the Student Advisory Council, I’ve worked directly with students, addressing real concerns at the grassroots level. As a Student Ambassador for both the University and the International Office, I’ve built strong connections across diverse student communities. Working at the SU as a Retail Assistant has helped me engage with students daily, strengthening my communication and understanding of their concerns. I bring leadership, advocacy, and a deep understanding of academic challenges. Let’s build a smarter, more student-focused education system—together. Vote Shufan for Education Officer!
If elected, I will focus on making education more accessible, responsive, and student-driven. My priorities include:
Hybrid Education—introducing flexible learning options to ease commuting costs.
Digitizing Feedback—ensuring student concerns are heard and acted on faster.
Collaboration—connecting academics and societies to enhance learning, reduce loneliness, and improve well-being.
I also aim to strengthen employability support and expand academic resources.
The SU has done great work, and I will continue efforts to improve student representation and support systems.
My goal is simple: a smarter, more inclusive education system that truly works for students.
