Qandeel Zahra, candidate for Equity Officer

Qandeel Zahra

Not just words: From Awareness to CHANGE!

Who are you?

Hey everyone, I’m Qandeel Zahra, a final yr Computer Science with AI student, and I’m running for Equity Officer to be your voice for equity, diversity, and inclusion!

Why I’m Running:

Many students, whether international, BAME, disabled, LGBTQ+, or from other minority groups, face real challenges every day. From struggling to find affordable housing and navigating job systems, to dealing with a curriculum that doesn’t reflect diverse perspectives, these barriers are real. Racism, discrimination, and homophobia often go unaddressed, leaving many feelings dismissed or too afraid to report due to fear of backlash. But I believe it's time for CHANGE!

Why should I vote for you?

As a School Rep for HHS & APPS, I’ve gained insight into how the Students' Union works and how we can improve it for everyone. Through my involvement with liberation networks, I’ve learned to address the diverse challenges faced by student communities. I’m committed to creating a more inclusive and diverse campus, tackling issues like housing, financial support, and discrimination. If elected, I’ll work to ensure quiet study spaces for PLSP students outside the library, and advocate for inclusive content, racism and reporting mechanisms. I’ll listen to your concerns and turn ideas into action for a better student experience.

What will you do?

As Equity Officer, I’ll advocate for a decolonized curriculum, ensuring diverse perspectives are included. I’ll create reliable reporting systems for racism and discrimination, with anonymous options to ensure no student fears backlash. I’ll push for better access to affordable housing and financial resources, holding property owners accountable. I’ll also support students adjusting to the UK’s academic environment, ensuring no one is left behind. Additionally, I’ll advocate for quiet study spaces for students with PLSP outside the library, and provide a safe space for students, whether home or international, to speak out without fear.

Rhoda Onyinye Asi-Nwaka, candidate for Equity Officer

Rhoda Onyinye Asi-Nwaka

Vote for Rhoda, your road to Order

Who are you?

Hi, I’m Rhoda! I’m an MSc Management with Communications student and your current academic rep. I’m passionate about community building and making sure every student—especially those far from home—feels included and supported. That’s why I’m running to be your Equity officer ! My policies focus on three key areas: creating a stronger student community, making leadership opportunities more accessible, and promoting holistic student well-being. If elected, I’ll work to bring students together, amplify diverse voices, and push for practical, cost effective initiatives that make a real difference. Let’s build a more connected, supportive campus together!

Why should I vote for you?

Students should vote for me because I genuinely care about making Huddersfield feel like home for everyone. As an academic rep, I’ve listened to student concerns and worked to make sure our voices are heard. I know how overwhelming uni life can get, especially if you’re far from home, and I want to make things easier—whether that’s through community events, clearer leadership opportunities, or better student support. I’m approachable, solution-focused, and always up for a chat. If you want someone who will actually listen and push for real, practical changes, I’m your girl. Let’s make this happen together

What will you do?

If elected, my priority is making leadership opportunities more accessible to all students. I’ll push for clearer application processes and introduce peer-led skill-building workshops to help students gain confidence in public speaking, networking, and leadership. Many students don’t apply for roles because they feel unqualified—I want to change that. I’ll also work to strengthen student communities, especially for those far from home, through “Find Your Community” campaigns and casual meetups. The SU is already doing great work, and I’d love to build on that by making leadership, opportunities, and support more inclusive and student-friendly!
