Who are you?
Hi! I'm Freya, I am running for president as I loved being equity officer but I want to continue my work on a higher scale that the president has within the university and across the regional area. I know how much responsibility this role requires and working in the office for a year has built up my experience. I studied a joint honours in sociology and psychology and participated in the Muay Thai sports club for 2 years. I am a massive people's person and enjoy being able to help others and learning more about different types of people.
Why should I vote for you?
I know I would be great for this role as I have gained so much experience from this equity role and have built up relationships with staff from the students union/university/NUS but also our local MP and mayor. Prior to working in the student union I also gained several experiences from being an academic rep and a senior student ambassador whilst studying at the university as I have always loved helping and talking to people. Overall, I am confident to dive into the presidency role and it helps that I already know how everything works!
What will you do?
My main aims for this year is getting the university to foster a 'harm reduction' approach which offers support to students who are found to be using drugs as well as promoting safe drug use to them. I want to carry on my work of international loneliness by doing more events like global social but also doing events actually within the student accommodations and to continue on men's mental health by creating a safe space for them to talk. Furthermore, I want to continue the work on women's safety but develop this work to within the town and local transport.
