Welcome to Societies of the Month, where we celebrate outstanding groups making a significant impact at our university. In September, many societies showcased their passion, dedication, and innovative spirit, making it challenging to narrow down our selections. However, we’re excited to spotlight exceptional groups from academic societies, global societies, and sports societies for their remarkable achievements this month.
Global Society:
First up, the Nigerian Student Society has made a strong impression this term. The NSS committee has worked closely with the Students' Union, asking all the right questions to achieve their objectives. They’ve already planned major events to bring the Nigerian student community together, both on and off campus. Their inclusivity and enthusiasm to share their culture with fellow students make them a standout society this month.
Academic Society:
Next, the Occupational Therapy Society has been working together brilliantly as a newly reestablished full committee. They’ve organised a range of academic and social events, with plans that stretch into 2025. The society has created academic and social hubs for OT students, offering opportunities both on and off campus. Their communication with the Students' Union has been exemplary, enabling them to achieve their goals efficiently. This well-organised group has created a strong, supportive community for OT students, making them a prime example of what an academic society should be.
Society:
The Christian Union continues to uphold its long-standing legacy of creating a welcoming environment for students to share their beliefs. They’ve worked closely with the Students' Union to organise events well in advance, aiming to engage like-minded students both on and off campus. Their proactive approach and strong planning make them a pleasure to collaborate with.
Similarly, the Rock and Metal Society has worked hard to engage new members, offering numerous opportunities to share their passion for music. The committee's attention to detail and readiness to ask the right questions ensure their events are well-executed. They’ve successfully brought together a community of music fans at Huddersfield and continue to welcome all students to their events.
Sports Society:
Finally, in the realm of sports, the Men’s Basketball club has faced significant challenges this year. With many students graduating and leaving the squad depleted, committee members Sandeep and Ropa stepped up and worked tirelessly over the summer to rebuild the team. Their hard work, especially as the club moved up to Platinum tier, involved constant communication with the SU, ActiveHud, and West Yorkshire Hawks. Ropa's leadership as president was crucial in ensuring the club’s success. Their dedication to the behind-the-scenes work will no doubt lead to a great season for the club.
These societies have gone above and beyond in September, showcasing the power of student engagement and leadership.
