Welcome to Societies of the Month! Each month, we take the time to highlight some of the societies that have really stood out here at Huddersfield Students' Union. In October, we’re excited to feature a selection of societies for their hard work, dedication, and the positive impact they’ve had on our community.
First up is the African Caribbean Society (ACS). Despite a challenging start with a committee reshuffle, they’ve handled things professionally and with patience. The committee has continued to build on the strong foundations laid by previous leaders, keeping ACS a vibrant and welcoming community. Their events are always exciting, and their excellent communication with the SU helps them deliver amazing experiences for their members.
Next, we’ve got the Marketing Society. This group has been consistently supporting its members with both social and academic events. They were the first society to achieve the ACE Employability award this year, which is a huge achievement! With the committee looking ahead to their future and planning a smooth transition as they approach graduation, they’ve shown exceptional organisation and a great working relationship with the SU.Societies:
Moving onto our interest societies, the K-Wave Society has really made an impact. They’re always in touch with the SU, ensuring they’re involved in wider events, and their passion for K-pop and Korean culture has helped them create a close-knit community of students. They bring people together with their shared interests, and their dedication is evident in everything they do.
The BSL Society has also made a big impression. Since forming last year, they’ve worked hard to create an inclusive environment where students can learn about British Sign Language. Their enthusiasm and commitment to educating and entertaining others has brought something special to the student community.
The Climbing & Mountaineering Club has kicked off the academic year with incredible energy and engagement. They lead the way in membership numbers among sport clubs and have built on last year’s momentum by packing October with a full slate of activities. From hosting training sessions at Freeklime—including a beginner-friendly technique class—to organising Wellbeing Walks with the SU, the club has been doing it all. They’ve also held hikes across West Yorkshire, visited local roped climbing facilities, and competed in the North Universities Bouldering Series (NUBS), where experienced climbers got to showcase their skills. With plenty of exciting plans for the coming months, the Climbing & Mountaineering Club is setting an inspiring example for student sports clubs. Be sure to follow them on social media to see what’s coming up and how you can get involved!
These societies have each made an incredible mark on October, showcasing the best of student involvement, teamwork, and passion. To join any of these groups and start making your own memories, check out Get Involved.
