Each month, we take the time to highlight some of the societies that have really stood out here at Huddersfield Students' Union. In January, we’re excited to feature a selection of societies for their hard work, dedication, and the positive impact they’ve had on our community. This month, we don’t have a featured Global Society, but there are still plenty of incredible groups to celebrate!
First up is the Speech and Language Therapy Society (SaLT). This recently revived academic society has been making waves by planning and executing a variety of engaging events for their small but dedicated course community. They’ve gone above and beyond to ensure inclusivity, even taking ACSOCs to Daphne Steele to enrich their members' experiences.
Their committee has worked tirelessly to bring this course’s community back to life, creating meaningful opportunities for their members to connect, learn, and grow. They’ve shown exceptional organisation and communication with the SU, and we can’t wait to see what they do next!
Moving on to our interest-based societies, we have two groups that have really impressed this month.
The Doctor who society and what a delightful committee this is! This wonderful group has been working quietly but effectively to create a welcoming and engaging environment for their members. Their events, designed specifically for their community, have been well-organised and inclusive, ensuring that everyone feels valued.
The committee members take their roles seriously, demonstrating a strong commitment to their society and excellent communication with the SU. Their dedication has helped build a close-knit group where members can share their love for all things Doctor Who.
Next up, we have the Brass Band Society, a group of incredibly dedicated students who have gone above and beyond to fundraise for their upcoming competition. Their efforts have been truly inspiring, showing their commitment not only to their music but also to the wider student community.
Working closely with the SU, they’ve helped bring entertainment to campus while also securing opportunities for their society to thrive. They are a joy to work with, and we can’t wait to see them perform in the future!
Last but certainly not least, we have our Sports Club of the Month – Darts Club! This group has made an incredible comeback this term, starting strong with an engaging presence at the Feel Good at Hud stall. Their enthusiasm attracted a lot of attention, and they’ve already built a solid membership base that’s only set to grow!
With a mix of on-campus and external sessions, they’ve mapped out an ambitious vision to become one of the biggest student groups at Huddersfield. Riding the wave of ‘Darts Fever’ from the recent World Championships and the rise of Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler, they’re working hard to build a lasting legacy. Who knows? We might even have our own University Darts League champion in the future!
These societies and clubs have each made an outstanding contribution this month, demonstrating the best of student involvement, teamwork, and passion. If you’re feeling inspired, why not check out these groups and get involved? Find out more through Get Involved!
