Society of the Month – February

Monday 17-03-2025 - 08:00

Each month, we take the time to highlight some of the societies that have really stood out here at Huddersfield Students' Union. In February, we’re thrilled to feature a selection of societies for their hard work, dedication, and the positive impact they’ve had on our community.

Academic society

First up is the Law Society, which has continued to build on the strong legacy of previous years. Their dedication to raising funds for the Law Society Challenge through successful bake sales in the SU has been inspiring.

The committee has shown great organisation and teamwork, ensuring smooth communication with the SU and a welcoming environment for their members. Their commitment to creating a supportive and engaging space for law students has made them a pleasure to work with – and this recognition is well deserved!

Societies:

Next, we have two interest-based societies that have made a big impact this month.

Once again, the Astrology and Spirituality Society has proven to be one of the most popular groups on campus. Their range of activities has attracted a diverse mix of students, and their consistent support for SU events throughout the year has been invaluable.

The committee has maintained a strong relationship with the SU, with regular in-person meetings to provide updates and seek advice. Their clear communication and inclusive approach have helped the society flourish – and this award is long overdue!

Since taking over last year, the Silver Screen Society’s committee has shown incredible dedication to the group’s aims and objectives. Their consistent involvement in SU events and their focus on creating a welcoming space for film lovers have strengthened the society’s place within the SU community.

The committee’s mindful approach to their members and their well-organised events have made a real difference. Their hard work and creativity have not gone unnoticed!

Global society:

This month’s Global Society is the Moroccan Society, which has achieved so much despite a slow start. They’ve engaged students from a range of backgrounds by showcasing their culture and traditions through a variety of activities.

The society’s enthusiasm and ambition have created a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. Their strong connection with the SU and their plans for future events make them a group to watch!

Sports club:

Finally, our Sports Club of the Month is Volleyball – and what a season they’ve had! Both the Men’s and Women’s teams have ended the BUCS season on a high, with some impressive results under their belt.

Special recognition goes to President Daniel, who has stepped up as the Men’s Student Assistant Coach while engaging with the SU and ActiveHud’s Coaching & Professional Development programme. The club is already working on plans to recruit more student coaches and officials for 2025/26 – a clear sign that Volleyball is going from strength to strength.

These societies and clubs have each made an outstanding contribution this month, demonstrating the best of student involvement, teamwork, and passion. If you’re feeling inspired, why not check out these groups and get involved? Find out more through Get Involved!
