What is the Class and social mobility network?

The Class and Social Mobility Network works to represent, share their perspectives as, and make student life better for students from lower socio-economic and/or working-class backgrounds, many of whom are first generation students. This Network is focused on enabling students from every class background to succeed.

At the University of Huddersfield, the Class and Social Mobility Network is committed to uplifting and empowering students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. Our mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of socio-economic status, has the support and opportunities needed to excel and thrive in their academic journey. Through dedicated advocacy, comprehensive support, and dynamic community-building initiatives, we aim to amplify the voices and experiences of our students, fostering an inclusive and equitable campus environment.

The Class and Social Mobility Network proudly serves a diverse community of students, including but not limited to:

  • Students from lower socio-economic backgrounds
  • First-generation university students
  • Veterans transitioning to academic life
  • Parents balancing family responsibilities with their studies
  • Carers providing essential support to family members
  • Care-experienced students who have been in foster care
  • Mature students returning to education later in life
  • Commuters travelling to campus from a distance
  • Part-time and distance learners managing education alongside other commitments
  •  Students from single-parent households

Our vision is to build a vibrant and supportive network where every student can achieve their highest potential and fully participate in the university experience.
