Huddersfield Men’s football storm into the semis.
Huddersfield men’s football romped to a 6-2 win over Hull securing their place in the semi-final of the cup. After a cagey first half with the scores equalled at 1-1, Huddersfield took a firm grip of the game and scored 6 goals in the second half to secure a resounding victory.
The game began as a tight affair with both sides seemingly trying to weigh each other up and get a feel for one another. However, it was Huddersfield who got the first real sight of goal, coming through Owen Mould whose header was saved well by the Hull keeper.
As the game approached the 15th minute mark it was Huddersfield who struck first, and it was coming. Richard Basha won the ball and produced a fantastic flick into Haroon Salah on the edge of the box who drilled home effortlessly into the bottom right corner leaving the keeper with no chance.
Hull looked to drag themselves back into the tie instantly with their striker bearing in on goal it looked for certain that he would score however a great recovery tackle from the Huddersfield defender stopped a way back into the game for the visitors.
Huddersfield had the chance to double their lead 5 minutes from the break, when Owen once again used his aerial ability to win the ball from a goal kick which played Richard through, who turned and crashed an outrageous volley off the crossbar 18 yards from goal and it unfortunately bounced clear.
For all the Huddersfield domination, Hull hit a hopeful ball forward which dropped kindly for their striker and just seconds before the break found the bottom corner past Byron. Giving the visitors and undeserved 1-1 scoreline at half time.
Yet this joy was to be short lived as one minute after kick off into the second half Haroon turned provider and delicately chipped a ball into the box leaving Baks Manjang with the easiest of tasks to tap his header home. Making the scoreline 2-1 and opening the floodgates for Huddersfield.
Just 4 minutes later Huddersfield extended their lead to 2 goals as a Hull defender is penalised for a handball leading to a penalty for the home side in which Richard Basha cooly converted down the middle.
Once again Huddersfield showed no signs of stopping and 5 minutes later Haroon found himself with acres of space on the left-hand side and cut in whilst leaving the Hull players for dead. He then lasered a great effort into the bottom left corner past the sprawling Hull goalkeeper and putting his side 4-1 up.
Hull looking defeated and shot of confidence and showed no signs of scoring until out of nothing a ball dropped to their striker on the edge of the box and he unleashed an absolute rocket past Byron from 23 yards out, leaving the Huddersfield keeper with nothing he could do about it.
However, Hull being back in the game didn’t last long as Huddersfield well and truly put the game to bed in the 70th minute through Baks who grabbed his second of the game sweeping home from an inch perfect cutback to restore his sides 3 goal lead.
Yet just before full time Huddersfield even further added to their lead through yet another penalty after Baks was chopped in down in the penalty area. With the chance to make it 6 and get himself a hat-trick Baks slotted his pen calmly into the bottom right corner putting the cherry on the cake in a resounding 6-2 victory in the quarter finals of the cup.
As the full-time whistle went it was met with delight from Huddersfield who knew how much of statement win this was and how much it means to their season. They are now only two games away from being cup champions and into the semi-finals.
