We presented this idea to the SU’s Director of Business Development, along with the retail team based within the SU Shop. After discussions, they have decided to lower the price of the fresh fruit, currently apples and bananas from 60p to 35p.They are also looking into what other fruit and healthier snack options we can provide. This is something that we can update students at a later time, but this decision should help make healthier items more affordable for students.
The SU Shop could greatly benefit from offering more affordable healthy options, as current choices are both limited and priced higher than nearby alternatives. For example, while a single banana at the SU Shop costs 60 pence, nearby shops offer a bunch for around £1. This price difference discourages students from purchasing healthier snacks on campus, pushing them toward more affordable but less nutritious options. By providing a wider variety of healthy foods at competitive prices, the SU Shop can better cater to the needs of health-conscious students and promote a more balanced lifestyle, all while remaining budget-friendly.

I agree, prices have gone up significantly since last term. As someone with a food allergy I feel there needs to be more free from options also! There isn't a lot of choice available
It is beneficial for the health conscious people specially
