“The one thing we need more than hope is action. Once we start to act, hope is everywhere” (Greta Thunberg)

Our mission at Huddersfield Students’ Union is to make student life better - and making sure all our students’ voices are heard is a big part of that.

We support students to work together to tell the University what life is like, to improve the student experience from a position of authenticity.

Our six student Networks are volunteer, student led groups which are defined and directed by their members. We have the BAME Ambassadors, Disabled Students Network, Global Students Network, LGBT+ Students Network, Women’s Network and the Class and Social Mobility Network.

Check out how to join the Networks and what they’re up to by clicking the links below.

For more information on the Networks, email h.wade@hud.ac.uk

Being authentic in a Network is important so if the group(s) don’t describe you as a person then you are an ally and not a group member.

If you want to know more, support, and be an active ally to the Networks then please join the Allyship Group.  This is something that we can all do for others.  Joining this group will help you to demonstrate that you want to make the world a better place through the actions that you take.

Can't find a group that resonates with you?

If none of the groups align with your identity, you can join as an ally rather than a group member. Being an ally is a way we can all support others. Joining this group shows your commitment to making the world better through your actions.

Information about Networks

The B.A.M.E. (Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic) Ambassadors represent their communities at the University, through campaigning, events, celebrating heritage and culture, challenging history, and shaping the future. The term B.A.M.E. is the preferred term of this group of students.

The Disabled Students’ Network collect feedback about the shared experiences of disabled students on campus and campaign for change.

The Global Citizens Network is a space for international students to come together and build a community where they can share ideas and experiences, celebrate culture and advocate for change on campus.

The LGBT+ Network works to represent students who identify under the umbrella of LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) in some way, including those who identify as asexual, intersex, queer and/or questioning.  This group celebrates identity and tackles barriers faced by the LGBT+ community.

The Women’s Network is for students who identify as women (cisgender, transgender, and/or intersex), including those with complex gender identities who associate in some way with the term women. With more than 50% of students here at Huddersfield being women, this Network ensures that women are heard.

The Class and Social Mobility Network is for students from lower socio-economic and/or working-class backgrounds, many of whom are the first people in their family to go to University. This Network is focused on enabling students from every class background to succeed by challenging the problems that students face, and helping students navigate their way through their University journey.
